People on this forum have everything from dressed-up stock 16" steelies to 20". I'm running Tanabe NF210 springs with 16" alloy wheels 7" wide with 40mm offset with 225/50-16 tires. I kept the 16" size to retain ride quality and because 16" tires are less expensive than larger sizes. You may want to take a look at the tool at
Custom rims, wheel tire packages for your ride - RIMSnTIRES.com to compare wheel and tire widths. On the left hand side, click on Shop Rims by car, enter your car, then on the left hand side click on Size Comparer. To avoid speedometer/odometer errors try to keep the same rolling diameter as stock.
From your second picture I assume you are looking at bigger wheels than 16". The bigger the wheel, the more weight (larger diameter needs more metal), and also cost (bigger wheels and tires tend to be more expensive). Also a bigger wheel will have a shorter tire sidewall to go with it, so cornering is improved slightly but ride degrades because the tire is less compliant.
The best compromise between ride and looks is probably 18" wheels that are 7" or 8" wide, but of course that depends on your personal preference. A number of folks on this forum are running 18" wheels with no clearance issues.
That said, your second picture appears to have 19" wheels, judging from the short sidewalls.
Have fun shopping!
