Hit the road for a day trip in The Silver Brick this morning and the "Check Engine" light came on. Double checked the gas cap for the easy answer, but it was tight. I was tempted to just ignore it, but noticed a lack of power on the first hill I came to, so I detoured to the dealer. After about an hour they told me it was some kind of spark advance problem that was going to take some effort to solve. They sent me on my way with a loaner Corolla. If all goes well, Il'l have the Brick back tomorrow, but because of the holiday might not get it back until next Monday. Interesting note: when the Check Engine light comes on the stability control is disabled, so the VSC light comes on too.

I'm bummed, but the dealer handled it well. They didn't keep me hanging around all day and it's all covered under warranty, including the loaner. Additional note: The Corolla ain't no xB.

Hope the brick returns soon. I would be interested to know what the final outcome is if you wouldn't mind. I do most of my own work so it would be good info just in case.

To the Brick: Get well soon....

Keep us informed as to what happens and any info as to why and risk to others (so we may be more informed).
I REALLY hope you get back the box soon.

The Brick is back.

I am pleased to report that the problem had nothing to do with any shortcoming of the xB (or the owner for that matter). It was officially diagnosed as a pinched wire and everything was covered under warranty. Thank you Torrington Toyota for doing a fantastic job.

Unofficially, a mouse had chewed through the wire...which is not covered by warranty. The garage (whiich is unheated) has been mined with DeCon and the cat has been reprimanded for not doing his job.
