Is there any way to tell if the tire pressure sensor has been removed just by visually looking at the wheel? Pics would be great!

I don't think you can tell by looking at the wheel. The sensor is inside the tire.

I think, unless something else is done, that the "low tire pressure light" would be on constantly if the TMPS have been removed....if you are not getting the low tire pressure indicator, you could just let some air out of the a tire to see if the indicator lights up....that would be an indication that the TMPS senders are installed.
