Have you guys heard about the TOYOTA sludge in the early 2000s? I was wondering if our engine is one of those prone to engine sludge. ???

Don't think so...if I remember right the problem was with the Lexus engines. Problem could be Googled...

i know this topic might be old but. from asking a couple toyota mtd's its a good decision to use good quality oil on the scion xb. the reason is the valve clearances if i remember are really close. so use good oil preferably a high grade 5w20 or 0w20. i get free service on my car but they use toyota oil which is a synthetic blend from what they were telling me

I don't think this engine has the sludge problem.

After my two free oil changes, I switched to full synthetic.
