I know the Chrystler v6 engines were extremely prone to it, my mothers poor sebring looked like someone had filled the valve cover with gak... That was a fun day.
i know this topic might be old but. from asking a couple toyota mtd's its a good decision to use good quality oil on the scion xb. the reason is the valve clearances if i remember are really close. so use good oil preferably a high grade 5w20 or 0w20. i get free service on my car but they use toyota oil which is a synthetic blend from what they were telling me
After my two free oil changes, I switched to full synthetic.
