I just bought the new 2012 Release Series and I'm looking for a trailer hitch for my bike rack. Every hitch I looked at says it will not fit the Release Series. Does anyone know why this is? I called the Curt Hitch customer service and they could not give me an answer? Any info would be great. Thanks.

The 2012 RS9 has a standard rear bumper, so I can't see why a trailer hitch wouldn't fit on your xB. It would be different on the 2011 RS 'tho.

Curt 12490
Hidden Hitch 60899

I would go with the Curt, but only for small loads!

Thanks for the updates. Like I said, this will be for my bike rack that I had on my previous car. I'll keep you posted if I do get one. I called a few places and they said if I buy one and try to put it on I can not return it if it does not fit or pay a 20% restocking fee.

My 2011 had a hitch installed when I purchased it used. I removed it since I won't ever need it (now on Craigslist SFBA). It's a Drawtite Hidden Hitch. Here are a few pics for reference. The wire harness came out of the big rubber grommet in the center underbody...

I don't know the differences between the regular XB and Release series. The hitch sits below the bumper and it doesn't get near the exhaust...

the differences between the regular XB and Release series
Some of the release series, like the RS8, have body kits and special rear bumper that extends below the normal bumper.

Others, like the most recent RS9, have a normal bumper but matching their limited color.

Perhaps other folks can chime in here, if they know specifics or have first-hand experience...

i say go with the roof rack... makes the xb more Cooler...
just my 2 cents.
Both hitches and racks serve similar but different purposes, though they certainly overlap.

You can't haul a teardrop trailer/camper with a rack . . .
