Underhood Storage Tray?

Has anybody else noticed the tray at the back of the engine compartment? It has several pockets or bins with dividers and looks like it is intended for something specific. There is also some kind of vent/intake at the far left. It's a great place to put tools while you're working on the xB, but wonder if Scion had something else in mind.

I was wondering where that rattle up front was coming from

My guess.. take up the gap between the hood and the windshield for better air management inside the engine comnpartment.

Oh, yes, of course it gets used as a tool tray..
