What a Difference a Dealer Makes

I have just had my 10K Oil Change and Maintenance check FREE at the dealer where I bought my xB. While I was there, I asked what the cost was to install the TRD CAI. They quoted me two hours at $114.00 per hour. So, just for comparison, I e-mailed another Dealer about the same distance from my home but in the opposite direction and they quoted me $75.00. I called to make an appointment to have them install it and asked the Service Manager what the cost was and he also quoted me $75.00. Seeing as how I bought the unit at the end of November and the warranty is better if a dealer does the install (date of installation rather than date of purchase if installed by someone else) I am going to let them do it. Install day is Tuesday. Can't wait.

Wow that's interesting, cause i think my dealer is like $90 an hour. The TRD CAI is definately my next upgrade...but i'll have to call around as to where i get it installed now.

Thanks the heads up! +Karma
It's a great upgrade! I love mine, which I installed myself.

Unless you make $90 an hour, you should install it yourself.

I will be ordering one soon and installing myself. If you have questions, let me know.
Ok. Had the TRD CAI installed. I had a dealer do it because I bought the unit in November and it would have a longer warranty if they did the work rather than me. Plus it is 27 degrees outside and my garage is not heated. Total cost to have it installed was 78.08. As for the performance of the unit. I can feel the difference in pickup especially in the power band. A little noisy when you get on it, but otherwise I love it so far.
WOW....I was quoted by my nearest dealer three hours to install. Calculated out $270. I figured it could not take much longer than 1.5 hours.
Glad to hear it is working out for you, I will install mine next weekend.
It took them just about three hours to install. They had quoted me the install price in an e-mail and they honored that price. I'm a happy camper.
3 hours to install an intake! dayum! thats a bit long.
It only cost me 78.00 to have it done so I didn't care how long it took.
I was told by a dealership that the TRD CAI could not be financed into the price of a new xB and that it will not be covered under the car's warranty, even if the dealership installs it. That didn't seem right to me. What's the purpose of the dealership offering a part they can not warranty?
I'm sorry you guys, I'm new to all this car stuff but whats a TRD CAI? I have seen a lot of people talking about it and have seen that as a popular modification. What is it? I tried to look it up on google and one of the results was about turds (as in poop). Not exactly what I was looking for.
TRD CAI stands for Toyota Racing Development Cold Air Intake.
I don't understand how having the dealer install your intake better your warranty. For all they know a different dealership could have installed it. The only thing toyota dealerships have on a universal file would be the warranty repair work. So my advice to everyone who has a little bit of mechanical knowledge would be to install it yourself. If for some reason they asked, just point the finger to another dealership where you use to go. That was the whole purpose of trd components, to give you a performance options for your vehicle but yet still fall under factory guidelines.
