So every time I show this vehical friends and family they say its ugly. And when I ask them what makes it ugly they say, "because its boxy". That however makes no sense too me. There have been tons of other vehicals in the past that were boxier then the xB. My Jeep for example is basically a box on wheels, and when the top was up it was a box on wheels with a tent on top.

So why do you guys think everyone thinks this vehical is ugly?

I just don't think they're used to it. Think about how long the jeep has been around... It's also different and there may be a bias because it's a more popular style overseas. I really don't know. I haven't really had anyone tell me in person that the second gen xB is ugly, just the first gen. Maybe they're just being nice. I don't know.

The front has a bit of a squinty-eyed look to it...

But the overall shape is rather striking, I think.

I knew before I purchased my xB that is wasn't going to win any beauty contests, but I didn't really care since most of what is sold today is very vanilla in the styling department. The first generation xB was never going to grace my garage because I felt it looked too much like a clowns car from the circus. The bold front end and short side windows made the new Xb more eye appealing, however the short back overhang is what needs to be addressed. Just 6-8 inches more overhand in the rear would have made the car more balanced.

If Scion would just drop a Hemi in I believe more people would like the xB. Faster, but still a face only a mother could love.

My friends always ask me if I'm bringing the "van" over when I say I'll be somewhere... I get harassed like you wouldn't believe because everyone thinks it's hideous... especially up in Canada where you rarely, if ever, see them driving around. I guess people aren't used to it and frankly, I LOVE that they all hate it. It just adds to my love for it because I've loved the xB since the day I first saw it back in 03 or 04.. whenever the pictures were released. I didn't like the 08 model at first, but I love it now... and the pure functionality of this vehicle just adds to its blinding awesomeness for me!

my folks thought it was a really cool car - first thing my dad wanted to do was go for a ride to check it out!

but my friends @ work have not said much - i guess that says a lot, eh

I never liked the xB's until I saw the new 08 model and I completely feel in love with it. My friends and family all love the color and my husband hasn't stopped detailing it for me. Guess he loves it too.

The gen 1s are kinda goofy looking, but the more I see of them the more I like them.

I know that one of the worst things they did was just put the steel wheels with the hubcaps. Just simply changing to actual nice wheels makes it look 10 times better. Ours has the 19's from TRD and it looks amazing!

I have to agree with "Scion", that the Gen. 1's looked like a clown car. I really like the way that the Gen. 2's look and how practical they are. A lot of people just stare at my car and try to figure out what make it is.

I feel the same way about the wheel situation. I saw a xB at the dealer that that had wheels next to the non-wheels. Wheels definatly looked way better. Plus any xB I see online with wheels just looks so much nicer.

it is kind of funny. my sister when i told her i was thinking of buying one said oh my god you getting that it is ugly as hell. well she was thinking 1st gen when she pulled up into the parking lot when i had finished the paper work on it. i was standing next to the first gen that was on the lot. she looked at the 2nd gen and was like sure you do not want that one. i told her that is the one i am getting this is the sales guy XB...lol

ok i like the 1st gen ones. but i wasn't in the market for a new vehicle when they were being sold. but i wanted brand new no owners. but me. so i got a second gen. am i regretting it. nope. each time i get behind the wheel of it i smile big time cause it is fun to drive.

what i do not understand is the 1st gen'r who can't get past the whole 1st gen 2nd gen BS. those people need to get a life. who cares that our cars are XB. live with it
