i have 2011 xB and I only clocked 400 miles on it. However, I have it since July 2011. Do I go change the oil now since it is almost 6months now? or wait until the Odometer reach to 3000/5000 miles? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

If I remember correctly, the manual recommends every 5k miles or 6 months. The first 2 changes are free under scion's plan. But in any case, check the manual again to get the correct intervals.

READ your Manual. You will be surprised what information you will find there.

Every 5,000 miles. Your maintenance required light will come on, don't freak out because it's supposed to do that. It will show up I think 100 miles before you've reached 5,000 miles.

I took the time to look it up in the manual and it states that if you haven't driven 5k miles in six months, change the oil at the 6 month mark. So you should change your oil every six month for the amount you drive.

The Maint Reqd light will flash a few times on start-up when you reach 4500 miles from your last change. It will flash more times as you get closer to 5000, then stay on once you reach 5000 until you get it serviced or shut if off yourself and ignore it until the next change. (Not promoting that: BAD, BAD idea. NEvER ignore an oil change!:boxing:).

If you do the oil change yourself, you'll have to reset the light yourself, or if the place where you get it done doesn't reset it, you'll have to do that yourself as well. Not sure how to do that, but it's on here somewhere....

You WILL want that light reset. It will help to remind you when the next oil change is due.

Sorry to see you never received a reply to this.

Im sure you've received your answer elsewhere

For the record. IMO you can use anyone of the higher line Fram filters / Tough Guard / Xtended Guard or the new Ultra Guard (my pick) for the fully synthetic oil change.

Make sure you run your pan oil for at least 5-7000 miles or you will be wasting your money. I run my Wife's Camry oil for 10K plus (Stock engine almost has 200K miles)

Every 6 months or 5,000 miles. Whichever comes first. The oil will degrade over time even if the car just sits. Also, I would use a toyota filter. OE parts rank higher in my opinion than aftermarket...

Ditto..... Genuine Toyota Oil filters are a good investment. You can buy them online at a cheap price if you don't want to go to the dealership to buy them.... Buy a case at a time. They're relatively cheap.

There'es a check valve in ALL of the Toyota branded filters. Not all aftermarket ones will have it. It keeps oil up in the upper half of the engine longer than one without, and saves the start-up damage that will occur without that oil being there...
