Where is your radar detector mounted?

I've been trying to decide the best place for my radar detector to reside in my xB. I am going to hard wire it SOON to free up the one and only 12v plug in the car so I don't have to choose between charging my phone and having my radar detector hooked up.

I would like to keep it relatively out of sight to any crackhead that might want to bust my glass for a cheap peice of electronics I bought a couple of years ago. I also don't want to lose full function of my visors, which is obviously an issue with any car.

Any suggestions? Pics?

I just have mine hanging some what below the middle of the windshield. It works fine. Don't worry about it not being able to read the radors. Just keep it simple and in sight. Unless you get tinted windows there really isn't anything you can do about theft, unless you take it down and take it without every time you leave the car or put it in the glove box ya dig?
i put mine like to the left of the mirror, as high as i can, so when i DO end up getting pulled over, i put the visor down and you cant see it. i tend to get a little better signal too. you could also put your visor down when you left the car too to make it harder to see.
I use and give a thumbs up to blendmount...

Blendmount.com - Custom Radar Detector Mounts  Escort Beltronics Valentine One

Perfect placement and the unit mounts/unmounts in seconds.
I mount my Valentine One in the middle of the windshield just high enough for line of sight out the back window for butt coverage. I wouldn't dream of leaving it exposed in the xB when it's unoccupied. I mounted a 12 V three outlet receptacle under the driver's seat to plug everything in (GPS, cell phone charger & radar detector).
I saw the Blend mount but I'm afraid with dim switch thing on the bottom of the mirror might interfere. You have any issues?
Nope, it clears the lever just fine. If you want some pics I could probably manage to upload a few this week. I have an x50 detector, I guess it is possible a larger/bulkier unit might clip it.
I feel like I've seen someone have it in their xB inside of the dash, in the air vent to the right of the drive...you could reach a finger in to press the buttons, or close the air vent to conceal it completely. I'm interested in this...as I have been pulled over with it up...and the cop didn't think twice about giving me a ticket instead of a warning.
Joe,
Most likely the unit you saw was a concealed multi-piece unit. I looked into those. Cheap end is about $350, high end $1599.

Update:

I had my detector hard wired today to mount at top of windshield when I was getting my sub and amp hooked up. Who needs a sun visor, right? LOL. Worked great for a minute now its freaking out and making a REALLY fast paced clicking noise and displaying an 8 (full l.e.d. display). I'm going to have to hook a meter and make sure it's not getting too many volts, 12V vs. 5V or something. Ugh. Maybe my sub made it crap itself. My luck....
i like the blend mount a lot... lots of buck for it tho... ill end up fabricating something similar... my question is... what are you guys hardwiring it to... i just need to find a 12v line to tap into preferably on the top half of the windshield but with no power in the mirror or in the roof for that matter i guess i have to go threw the dash... any suggestions would be appreciated

There should be a hot wire to both your map lights and dome.
