I am in the market for a new car. I have always liked the Xb since 08 when they made some changes. ... but most of the cars i am looking at have 6speed automatic transmission. ... 4 speed just doesn't seem adequate.

but i do like the xB enough to try to look past it.

Can you guys please tell me what you think of the 4 speed auto trans? is there a reason for it? do you find you wish you had an overdrive on the freeway. ... even my 04 accord has a 5 speed auto trans.

thank you

Yeah, that's the one big thing I wish Toyota had done differently was put a 5 or 6 speed auto in the xB. I remember reading a similar discussion here where someone mentioned that at some point the torque converter "locks" and essentially is like an overdrive. I don't understand the mechanics of it I just remember reading about it. You may want to do a forum search for more details.

I agree the 4 speed sucks so I sold my 08 auto and got a 2011 5 speed 😀

Thanks for the reply zinger.

yeah, that is the ONE thing that is holding me back from pulling the trigger at this point. i have been considering getting this car for a few years now. and now that i am in the buying spirit, i would like to consider it. ... and your right i should search around a little more. I googled this issue alot and i'm surprised there's not more dialogue around it.

do you guys just deal with the 4 speed. how does it work.

i test drove one a couple weeks ago. seemed to do okay. i was mainly curious about high rpm at higher freeway speeds 75-85 mph. but it actually wasnt too bad. ... i went to test drive the 5 speed manuel to see how smooth that was. but they didn't have any. :(

Yep, get the 5-speed. At 70mph, the rpm's are 3k in 5th gear.

I drive auto. I think the weak link is really the transmission. The sport shifting is kind of fun although I don't do it much, but the engine seems pretty responsive it really seems the weak point comes in the automatic shifting. Just my 2 cents

The auto works just fine for what it is. I mean its a toyota, its not gonna just up n die unless you beat on it constantly, even then.

I have both. I prefer the stick as its just fits me personally better. Finding a stick in our cars is far and few inbetweenn. Ive done the looking.

Speaking of looking...

Youll get the looks in my rs8 :D when ya buy it.

The reliability is proven excellent.

The shifts are a little indecisive sometimes when you let off the gas then decide to punch it.

It'll keep up or even beat some of the 5sp or 6sp cars out there in it's own category but if speed is your thing the xB is very slow.

I'm getting 29mpg average but a car in this category should get 35mpg.

Agreed on all points. I love the xB, but it's pretty much a style box. I see the commercials for the new ford focus, and while I would never drive that car, they advertise 40MPG. That's no joke.

If I upgraded the performance it would just be to tighten up the steering a little and for fuel efficiency or sound effects.

2012 xB auto, I get about 28.... Always take mine to the dealership.... I'm assuming they use the correct oil.... Maybe I should ask for documentation.... From the 16 mpg I was getting before (Ford Ranger), I am happy as **** with my 28 Mpg

Cars that the scion sexB is unequivocally better than:

1. nissan cube
2. kia soul
3. (sorry) scion xb1

it doesn't get as good mpg as other cars in it's class, but it's bigger, safer, quicker, and better looking, imo
