And now that it's done, what do you think? Does it feel like a new car? Maybe sort of, but without the new car smell?

It is a refreshing feeling, My XB has 130,000 miles on it and it has new pistons, rings valve cover gaskets and whatever else new that they had to put in it to do the job. I will keep an eye on the oil level at least for a little while, ( I used to keep an alarm on my phone to remind me to check it every week ) It feels like it has a little more pep than it did. I will probably put new plugs in again soon since they were burning oil, even though they only have 30,000 miles on them .It does almost feel like having a new car.

How To Find Engine Type for Oil Consumption

Anyone know how to find out if you have the engine that has the oil consumption? I have a 09 Scion XB.

Just curious, the later GEN2 seeing it this too? I wonder, since Toyota has the fix has it been applied to production? I just leased a 2015 but want to keep this mind when it comes buying it or leasing something new.

To ScanoMe49: this should apply to all xBs since we all have the same 2AZ engine, 2008 to present.

To gedster314: U2BROTHR who owns a 2013 (in Canada), NYxB and autobotguy (both in the US) with 2012 cars, and myself with a 2011 in California all received letters. So even the more recent xBs are covered. Not sure if this applies to the 2015s but it probably does.

2nd Gen Scion xB oil consumption TSB

Hello everyone. I have a 2010 Scion xB that I use to commute from Arizona to Oregon. I had 146,000 miles on it as of 3/1/2016. I took it to the local Toyota / Scion dealer for a window switch recall and they also did the oil consumption test and it failed (barely)... They put in new pistons and rings, fresh synthetic oil and filter, and gave me a free rental car for 3 days. All the parts, labor, and loaner car were free. FYI - if you have an xB take it in for the recall

Same thing for the engine wiring harness on some xB's, you have to be within a certain mile/time frame. If the parts aren't made right replace them if they fail or before would be better. This is getting out of hand and won't sit well when shopping for a new replacement vehicle.
NEw here guys, I just got a 2014 Xb with only 14K miles and love it.

I read something on the warranty book about having the extended second warranty but I didn't know the reason for
it, now at is the problem with the engine wiring harness issue, can some one explain please?

Thanks in advance

Hi Blueboy, welcome. This forum is a shadow of its former self. Most folks have moved on to newer rides or have lost interest. A very few of us still lurk however.

The "warranty enhancement" (as Toyota calls it) is for oil consumption/piston ring wear on this particular engine, used in 2006-2011 Camrys, 1st gen TCs, and 2nd gen xBs. Basically Toyota addressed a Class Action lawsuit by giving a free rebuild of your engine if they determine that you fail an oil consumption test prior to 150k miles or 10 years after the Primary Coverage ends. If you don't already have a letter, you should be able to get a copy from your dealer or Toyota.

I bought my car on May 7 2011 and my letter says the Primary Coverage ended Oct 31 2016. So if my car fails the oil consumption test within 10 years or 150k miles (whichever is first) after Nov 1 2016 then Toyota will rebuild my engine. Pretty cool.

Have fun with your car. I still do.

Website traffic has been declining since about 2013. There used to be many more active topics and traffic in general. As I mentioned, some members have moved on to different rides, and others I suspect don't check the site as often as they used to.

Too bad Toyota let the xB die. I don't consider the Scion iM/Corolla iM a worthy replacement, because it doesn't have the horsepower or distinct styling our cars have.

Agree with your comments. The iM is nice but no way it's an xB replacement. I even like their new Juke fighting vehicle that obviously looks like it was supposed to be a Scion. I moved away from this page and was more active on the xB Fb page but even that I haven't been as active. Still enjoying my 2012 xB2 though!

I got an email notification so I figured I'd chime in too. I probably came to this site later than most after buying my 2012 xB new, but had a lot of good chats on here. I still love mine too, still going strong with 65K miles on it now. Actually I just sold 3 stock steel wheels and 4 hub caps to another xB owner on Craigslist. A couple years ago I had dented one of my wheels a little on the rim, then bought 4 wheels from a guy on Craigslist who had just bought new and put on new wheels. It was about the same price as buying one new wheel from the Toyota dealer, and this way I would have extras and could sell them. Well I did just sell them on Craigslist for the same price, lol.

My oil was actually near the bottom of the crosshatch on the dipstick just before I got my last oil change. Maybe it was close before though, not sure since I didn't check. I'll check now and then right before next oil change again, if not a few times in between. So far when I checked before, it seemed like I hadn't lost any oil level at all.

That Toyota Juke-competitor does look cool. I wasn't a big fan of the Juke though. It always seemed like the opposite of the xB. How can you make a car with the least amount of interior space compared to how big it is on the outside? It has a big fat front end and a small cabin that slopes down in back. I wonder how the cargo space compares with the back seats down.

I plan to keep my xB a long time yet. No car payment right now! But if I were to buy something today, I might check into Jeeps actually. I never really considered them before, but the Renegade is kind of cool, and the Compass doesn't look like *** anymore. Small SUV still fits what I want/need and I haven't really gotten any richer, lol.
